I have a friend who lives in Port Elgin, not far from the shores of Lake Huron. On a summer’s day the beach is always crowded, but this painting is inspired by a trip that I took just after the summer visitors had left. We spent a lovely time walking the empty beach looking for driftwood and other treasures.

As a child I loved to play in the woods near to our house, and now as an adult I love to go for walks on woodland trails. I never get tired of painting trees as I just love to capture the feeling of being surrounded by them.
